    Testing WordPress on iPhone

    by  • 17 September, 2008 • General, Tech, Trips • 0 Comments

I am sitting here in parko Georgiadou in the centre of Iraklio, a frappé in front of me, latin music floating in from behind, painstakingly composing this post on the small iPhone keyboard while keeping a worried eye on my battery indicator. It went from 61% to 47% in the last 10 minutes. This...

    Stoopid Microsoft search engine

    by  • 24 July, 2008 • Tech • 0 Comments

For the last couple of weeks my log files showed some funny referrals from what turned out to be a Microsoft IP address. Each time a single search term would lead to my site, apparently from the Microsoft search.live.com site. Search terms included: money, crete, about, greece, uncategorized, harddisk, stress etc… My site doesn’t...

You might have heard of Lively, the virtual world launched last week by Google. I decided to leave another shore and start a new career as a Cretan kafeníon owner there. Come by and have a chat if you want. For the moment you need a Windows based system, Macs and Linux are not...

    by  • 25 June, 2008 • Tech • 0 Comments

I recently volunteered to assist in the migration of a wordpress.com hosted blog to a self-hosted installation of the open source wordpress CMS. As far as the technical aspects were concerned all went pretty smooth. The challenge appeared to be to make the self-hosted site look exactly like the wordpress.com hosted blog.

    Microblogging

    by  • 17 June, 2008 • Tech • 0 Comments

That was kind of a long break. I’ve been exploring the social networks, what I call the sociosphere™, sometimes referred to as the Microblog Community. I didn’t find the whole idea attractive over a year ago when it started, but now I’m fascinated by it. It’s compelling, addictive even.

Dear webmasters of multi-lingual sites (including you, blogspot.com!), Please, STOP STARING AT MY iPEE! I’m not staring at your … okay, we don’t need to go into that, you get my point already. That being said, now that I have your attention, here’s the deal.

    Phantom Internet

    by  • 7 May, 2008 • General, Tech • 0 Comments

Mike Elgon writes on his blog about the hoops he has to jump through to get a decent internet connection while traveling in Greece. The article is written in Ágios Nikólaos, here in Crete. Note that this guy does not travel for pleasure, he’s not a tourist on vacation. His tag line makes it...

    You call this “short”?

    by  • 28 April, 2008 • General, Travel • 1 Comment

My “short break” turned out to be a rather longish break. Everything went fine with the trip to Brussels. We had some problems at the car rental desk due to my credit card having extended it’s limit for the month (I didn’t keep track carefully enough) but after 3 hours of phone calls and...

    In a gallop

    by  • 8 April, 2008 • General • 0 Comments

ERT’s fine journalists had me cringe again today. Consider the following quotes from a recent article: According to results of two recent gallops, the ND party is firmly in the lead against PASOK party and… In a gallop conducted by Public Issue on behalf of Skai channel and Kathimerini newspaper, and finally… Another...
