A 1,5m long squid weighting 4,2kg was washed ashore Koum-Kapi beach in Chania, Crete. A resident of the area saw the giant squid as he was trying to park his car. His son, who was accompanying him went straight to collect the squid, which is usually fished in deep waters in the Mediterranean. The squid probably seeking for small fish lost orientation. As to the fate of the squid, it is certain to end up a tasty fish dish for the family of the lucky finder. I know how I would like to have it prepared: stewed in fennel leaves and accompanied by paksimadia (small Cretan rusks) and raki (preferably), eventually a retsina wine instead.
