Everybody’s been talking about snow on the Intahrnet today. A friend from Belgium even sent me an e-mail this morning inquiring about the situation. Quite frankly, I had no idea what they were all talking about. Here, about 1 kilometer north of the archaeological site of Knossós and some 4 kilometers south of the port of Iraklio, there was not a flake of snow to be seen. Fortunately there is television. I couldn’t believe the images I saw. Not one shade of white around here and the rest of the island seems to be covered in heaps of snow! People in Omalos (Chania), Lasithi plateau and Krousonas (Iraklio) have been snowed in, cut off or otherwise isolated for the whole night apparently. I’m uploading a small movie to YouTube right now, so you can enjoy our rare moment of whiteness.
It is freakin’ cold though, even here. The thermometer has been hovering around 4°C (39°F) all day, and our small heaters can’t keep the place warm. Moreover the distributors of heating petrol have chosen this time of the year to go on a strike! Nice timing, guys!
